Art

We provide a rich, progressive journey that empowers pupils to explore their creativity while mastering fundamental skills. Children engage with a diverse gallery of influential figures, from the Impressionist light of Claude Monet and Mary Cassatt to the bold Surrealism of Frida Kahlo and the abstract line work of Pablo Picasso. We focus on developing core techniques in drawing—utilising pencil, charcoal, and pastels to explore tone, shadow, and outline within dedicated sketchbooks—and painting, where children experiment with color theory by mixing primary shades to create secondary tones, tints, and textures inspired by Vincent van Gogh and Sophia Oshodin.

Our curriculum blends traditional crafts with contemporary practice; pupils master sculpture and collage through the food landscapes of Carl Warner and the clay techniques of William Morris, while also exploring the ephemeral, environmental sculptures of Andy Goldsworthy captured through digital media. We foster a "hands-on" approach to printing, using objects and repeat patterns in the style of Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Throughout the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, children are encouraged to express feelings and experiences—including work linked to Kandinsky, collaborative junk modeling and nature-based collages following Matisse and Henry Moore. By investigating the "fruit faces" of Arcimboldo or the jungle depths of Henri Rousseau, our pupils learn to observe the world with detail, recording their unique perceptions and developing a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
