Design and Technology

We provide children with hands-on opportunities to become young designers and engineers. A key focus is Cooking and Nutrition, where children explore the origins of food, participate in food tasting, and learn the importance of healthy meals. From following recipes for bread making to preparing nutritious party food, our pupils select ingredients based on their characteristics and learn essential food hygiene. We also explore the sensory side of design, allowing children to experiment with scent and texture when making fragrant products.

Our children engage in ambitious construction projects that build their technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. They learn to design and construct 3D houses inspired by the Great Fire of London and build complex structures like bridges, buildings, and animal burrows. Through these projects, they investigate how to make their creations stronger, stiffer, and more stable. Innovation takes center stage as children dive into mechanical systems, such as building Moon Buggies featuring functional wheels and axles. Whether working in our "Mini Woodland" or using a wide range of textiles and construction materials in the classroom, our pupils are encouraged to evaluate their ideas and refine their designs to bring their imaginations to life.
